Dad of two boys, from his relationship with Amanda Sthers, Patrick Bruel needed to take stock before holding his eldest in his arms. If he has always been there for his sons Oscar, born in 2003 and Léon, born in 2005, the singer, for his part, grew up without a male figure at home. When he came into the world, his father was only 20 years old and he realized that this life was not made for him. Which explains why Patrick spent his childhood with his mother, only.
There was no total absence
The father of Patrick Bruel sometimes took a step forward in his direction. He had, in particular, paid for a vinyl to his son that the latter recently found in his belongings. “My father gave it to me in 1971, for my 12th birthdayhe says in the columns of the magazine Point. He had come to Paris, we had lunch and he had taken me to a store to buy this record and Mozart’s Requiem. This gift proves that there was no total absence. He just didn’t exist enough.”
Patrick Bruel is about to release his 10th album, Once agains, whose influences are very diverse. These multiple tastes, in terms of music, he owes in particular to his mother, who raised him alone but always in rhythm. This is what he says, explaining that the absence of his father has him, basically, rather well “arranged“.”Because I lived with my mother a kind of free pairhe says. We hitchhiked to Italy when I was 8, backpacked through Spain, to Réome, to see Tosca at the Caracalla thermal baths… we were fine! My mother wandered between the great French chanson, rock and classical music. My eclecticism, I owe it to him.“
