“It was an evening of happiness”: the moving memories of Alexia Daval’s mother in front of the last images of her daughter: Femme Actuelle Le MAG

Since 1999, the date of November 25 has been dedicated to the fight against violence against women, which denounces in particular the too many feminicides which occur each year in many countries. A case which shocked the French, the murder of Alexia Daval by her companion Jonathann Daval which occurred in October 2017 was quickly publicized. Nearly six years later, a documentary series called Alexia, autopsy of a feminicide and broadcast on the platform myCanal is devoted to the drama and the events that preceded it. Aiming to be as faithful as possible to reality, the documentary includes images of the last moments of Alexia Daval’s life. Isabelle Fouillot, the victim’s mother, provided director Thomas Chagnaud with a video taken a few hours before the tragedy, where we can see her daughter in the company of her nephew. Invited Sunday November 26, 2023 on the set of C media on France 5Isabelle Fouillot explained the motivations which pushed her to participate.

Denouncing the reality of femicide

“These are the last images of Alexia alive. It’s so that people realize what we lost, that our life changed in five minutes. And it can happen to anyone.”she declared, with tears in her eyes. “I never thought I would experience such a tragedy. It was the unspeakable that happened. We were in an evening of happiness. And the next day, it was unhappiness, tragedy”added Isabelle Fouillot, who today wants to fight to reduce the number of feminicides in France. In October 2017, the murder of Alexia Daval by her husband was the 147th feminicide of the year in France. As a reminder, on November 21, 2020, Jonathann Daval was sentenced to 25 years of imprisonment. “The challenge of this film is to make things concrete. Our ambition is to confront the French with the reality of what feminicide is, of what all the families faced with these tragedies have experienced”, explained Thomas Chagnaud, director of the documentary series, in the Parisian Saturday November 25, 2023.
