“It was frustrating”: Marie-Sophie Lacarrau’s unspoken secrets about her long absence

At the very beginning of January, viewers of TF1, impatient to find Marie-Sophie Lacarrau, had the unpleasant surprise of learning of her absence. “Nothing serious. I have a small medical issue. I’m well. It’s not Covid“, she confided to France Info. Five months later, the presenter made her comeback this Monday, May 16. Invited on the Daily set this Thursday, May 19, she wanted to make some confidences about her long absence. “It was very frustrating“, she first confided. The reason? “I left when we had very strong and busy news. There was the war in Ukraine, then the presidential election“, she continued before adding: “It was a big setback“. Journalist, Marie-Sophie Lacarrau was therefore unable to practice her profession for several months. “How do you keep up to date with current events?“, asked Yann Barthès. “I had my period when I started listening to TV, without watching it. I could listen to the radio“, she first explained. “Gradually it came back, it wasn’t four and a half months of pain but I discussed a lot with my husband and my children who told me all the news“, concluded Marie-Sophie Lacarrau.

Not being able to practice her profession for several months was very difficult for the journalist. Thus, his return to the set of the JT 13 hours of TF1 was prepared upstream. “I am lucky with TF1 to have prepared my return. During the two weeks before returning, I did a lot of tests on set and we adapted the intensity of the lights to what my eye can withstand“, she explained. While Yann Barthès points out to her that this was also done on her set, the journalist immediately thanks him. “I couldn’t have come otherwise, the light is too strong, it blinds. Therefore, we adapted it to be acceptable to my eye, the cameras, the technique and the viewers at home“. Was Marie-Sophie Lacarrau afraid of losing her sight? “My doctor reassured me from the start. It’s a risk with this disease but I understood that it was going to be fine when I understood that I had been taken care of very quickly“, she confided before adding: “I only had about ten days during which no one knew what was wrong with me. When they found out what I had, I got the right treatment and I was lucky. I escaped the worst“, she concluded.

Marie-Sophie Lacarrau: what illness did she suffer from?

For five months, Marie-Sophie Lacarrau had problems with her eyes. Following a visit to the Rothschild Foundation, she learned that she was suffering from “amoebic keratitis, an infection of the cornea by amoebas, parasites found in tap water“, she explained. Taken care of quickly, she then took time for herself before being able to return to the JT set. For this, she had to adapt. “I can’t use a teleprompter anymore so I could wear lenses today but I don’t want to put them back. I wear glasses and when I did my trials I tested everything and I liked having plugs only“, she said before continuing: “It can also be seen as a nod to Jean-Pierre Pernaut“. As a reminder, the former presenter also only had files and no teleprompter.
