“It was inhuman”: shock and grief in the Vosges after Lucas’ suicide

He was only thirteen. Lucas, a schoolboy from Golbey, in the Vosges, committed suicide at home last Saturday. His relatives claim that he was the victim of harassment from some of his comrades because of his homosexuality. A preliminary investigation has been opened to verify this and find out if there is indeed a link between these mockeries and the suicide of the teenager. In his college, the students and their parents remain stunned, as evidenced by the only bouquet hung on the entrance gate of the establishment.

A week after Lucas’ suicide, Lilou, in the same class as him, still has trouble believing it. “We didn’t see anything. Nobody saw anything and we’re trying to find answers to the questions. The question everyone is asking is why,” she asks in a breath.

Despite complaints, “nothing was happening”

Lucas’ best friend, Anaïs, did not expect him to act either, but explains that he was harassed because of his homosexuality. “We pushed him around, we called him a fagot, a fag. It was inhuman. He had spoken to the CPE and the principal about it. But according to what he was telling me, there was nothing going on. “, explains the young schoolgirl.

Words that greatly worry Jean-François, the father of Anaïs and her two sisters, educated here. “Sometimes I have my youngest child who gets hit. We’ll complain, but hey, it’s not moving. Me, I’m going to contact the Academy. They’re all going to change schools. They won’t stay here, it’s is not possible,” he says.

The investigation is still ongoing to verify the facts and see if this is what pushed Lucas to suicide. But today, it is still time for mourning. The boy’s funeral will take place this Saturday afternoon at 5 p.m.
