Since the end of last year, it’s been a crisis for Salto. Following the impossibility of the TF1 group to buy the M6 group, none of the three shareholders – TF1, M6 and France Télévisions – wishes to recover the French sVOD service on its own shoulders. Now, according to information from Figarothe only possibility would be simply the dissolution of the subscription video service.

In an article published on Monday, February 6, the French daily indeed claims to have learned that “ the dissolution of the tricolor streaming platform [était] imminent“and that it will be recorded” in the coming days and announced at a general meeting “.

Concretely, Salto should therefore indeed disappear in the coming weeks. It must be said that, since its launch, the platform – which modeled its model on that of the American Hulu – has had many disappointments. As remindedLe Figarothe video service was initially announced in 2018 before seeing the light of day at the end of 2020.

Not only did the competition accelerate between these two dates, with the arrival of Disney Plus and Apple TV Plus in France, but Salto also had trouble with the competition authority. It is indeed impossible for Salto’s shareholder channels to promote it, and also impossible to offer too much exclusive content.

A little ride and then go away

Assessment, between a few exclusives — the special episodes of Friendsand D’ Harry Potter the remakes of gossip girl ofCharmedor Prince of Bel Air— and some old American series ( Dr House, Buffy the Vampire Slayer , Emergency room, Malcolm), the platform mainly served as a paid replay platform for TF1, M6 and France Télévisions, both for their own series and for their more traditional programs. Moreover, as pointed out by our colleagues from Numerama , several shows have already disappeared from Salto. The company also returned to its offices pending a decision.

Mid-January, the sitePure Mediassounded a first alarm signal, announcing a dissolution recorded by “A few days“. If nothing happened last month, information from theFigaroseem to corroborate a very close deadline. According to the daily, the Salto company could thus be placed in compulsory liquidation in the coming days and the forty employees could therefore be made redundant in the process. A legal representative would take care of reselling Salto’s assets to interested companies. The decision could well come in the next few days.
