Conte new coach at Tottenham Hotspur

One has just left, the next one is already there: Antonio Conte takes over Tottenham Hotspur as coach. The previous coach, Nuno Espírito Santo, was fired only yesterday.

Now it’s official: Tottenham Hotspur greets its new coach on Twitter with a simple “Buongiorno Antonio …”. The Italian Antonio Conte will be on the sidelines from now on. He had previously been out of a club since the summer after terminating his contract with Inter Milan. The 52-year-old had led the Italians to their first championship in eleven years.

Talks between the London club and Conte had already taken place in the summer. But at that time the parties could not agree. “It didn’t work out because the end of my time at Inter was still too fresh and emotional,” said the Italian in a club release.

Now he’s back in London, where he coached Chelsea FC from 2016 to 2018. Here, too, he won the championship in the first year, the English Cup in the second, before being dismissed a few months later for the first and only time in his career. According to the Guardian, the premature separation cost the Blues around 30 million euros at the time.

During his stint at Juventus Turin, Conte also showed that he is a real master coach. From 2011 to 2014 he won the Scudetti three times with the Turin team before he went into dispute here too and took over the Italian national team. After the quarter-finals at the EM 2016 against Germany, this time was also over.

Now Conte succeeds the hapless Nuno Espírito Santo. He had to pack his bags yesterday after a disastrous 3-0 defeat against Manchester United. The Spurs are currently in seventh place in the Premier League. The task for Conte will not be an easy one.
