(Reuters) – Italian defense company Leonardo announced on Tuesday that it had ended discussions with the Franco-German consortium KNDS with a view to creating a strategic alliance in the field of tanks, without giving the reason.

Leonardo and KNDS, formed by the French Nexter and the German Krauss Maffei Wegmann (KMW), announced in December the formation of this strategic alliance to develop a new generation of tanks.

In a press release released on Tuesday, Leonardo said he would not give up on his project to develop a “tank of the future”, while saying he wanted to carry it out “in cooperation with other partners”.
