The trend was made famous by manicurist Alexandra Teleki, who gives tips on manicures and nail polish on TikTok under the name @thehotblendofficial. Your video tutorial now has almost 23,000 likes on the social media platform.
In an interview with the online magazine “Refinery 29” reveals the nail artist: “The Italian manicure can be used both on the complete nail and just on the tips. It’s basically French nails with a twist. I’ve heard that it is also called the Mediterranean technique.” She first saw the manicure method in Milan a few years ago. The trend is particularly popular and suitable for people who, for example, are not allowed to have long fingernails because of their job.
Italian manicure in three steps
The Italian manicure can also be easily imitated at home without a visit to the nail salon. The first step is to prepare the fingernails and the nail bed. The best way to do this is to file the nails into the desired shape. Then push back the cuticles and clean the contours. In the second step you need a base coat – this is especially necessary if you work as a top coat with dark tones. Due to the base coat, the dark polish does not rub off on the nail. The base coat in cream or nude is applied as close as possible to the cuticles.
In the third step, the main paint is applied. With the top coat, it is important not to brush the color down to the cuticles, but to leave a few millimeters distance to the edges. It is best to have a toothpick ready in advance, with it the contours can be touched up afterwards. If you like, you can also apply colorless nail polish to extend the durability of the manicure and protect the Italian manicure from peeling off.
