Italian police officers had to look closely to reveal this hiding place: when they entered the home of a 46-year-old local in Taurianova, they came across a trap door under a bed in the bedroom. From there they got into an underground, elaborately developed secret bunker.
The 3 x 3 meter large and 2 meter high room is perfect for hiding weapons, drugs or people, as reported by the Italian media.
Bunker with lighting and ventilation
The bunker is covered with tiles that are identical to the floor of the bedroom. It has a lighting system, a ventilation system and can be opened and closed electronically. It is not yet clear what exactly the bunker was used for.
The owner was reported to the judicial authorities because of the illegal construction, the premises were confiscated. The authorities are investigating whether the structure has also been used over time by members of the local mafia group ‘Ndrangheta when members tried to evade arrest. (vof)
