Italy is planning covid-free islands for international mass tourism

The number of new infections is lower than it has been in seven months. The incidence fell from 157.4 to 146.3 cases per 100,000 population in one week. The vaccinations are progressing. Since this Monday, most of the country has been colored yellow in the corona stage. Sardinia has made the leap from red to orange. Puglia, Basilicata, Calabria and Sicily are also orange. Only the Aosta Valley remains a restricted area. Lombardy, which was once so badly affected by Corona, will soon be the first region in Italy to demonstrate herd immunity.

The course is set well for the tourist summer season. Rome nevertheless approaches the opening of the borders with caution. For Swiss people, whoever wants to travel to Bella Italia must present a negative PCR or antigen test and be in quarantine for five days. That doesn’t exactly create a travel mood. In ten days, however, everything could be different. The next decree of the Draghi government on the corona rules will follow on May 15. And that should be relaxed.
