In a long text shared on his Instagram account this Wednesday, July 12, 2023, Laurent Ruquier announces that he is leaving France 2 after 23 years of good and loyal service. The host decided to slam the door of the public channel following disagreements with his management. He does not know if he will be on the small screen at the start of the school year.

As revealed The Parisian a week ago, Laurent Ruquier is indeed slamming the door of France 2. After twenty years of collaboration, the host announced on his Instagram account that he was leaving the channel in part because of his tense relationships with management. “I have worked for the public service for 23 seasons. I would like to thank all the producers-producers and directors-directors who have allowed me to continue We tried everything (8 years of daily), We are not in bed (15 seasons), We only ask to laugh (Daily which for several years has revealed today’s best comedians), Children of TV (For six seasons already and whose return to France 2 is now a big success), without forgetting We are live which for two years will have made it possible, among other things, to reveal Philippe Caverivière”, wrote Laurent Ruquier in a long text shared on his Instagram account.

The host then listed all the names he managed to “make known” over the years: “Franck Dubosc, Jean-Luc Lemoine, Florence Foresti, Kev Adams, Nicole Ferroni, Waly Dia, Artus, Jeremy Ferrari, Ahmed Sylla, Constance or Léa Salamé… I can’t name them all.”

“It was time to think about other horizons”

Laurent Ruquier then addressed his tense relationship with the management of France 2 in a very cashy way: “I could have continued to present quietly Children of TV but I still have other desires, other ambitions and unfortunately I see year after year the reduction of my emissions, since I learned again – only at the end of June! – that there would no longer be a premium Big heads or some TV kids next season. This is the last sign that confirmed to me that it was time to think about other horizons”. Relations between the management of France 2 and Laurent Ruquier were strained in 2020, when the host launched the issue We are live. Léa Salamé joined him to co-host the show the following year. A formula that did not suit Laurent Ruquier who left the ship at the end of the season.

In his Instagram text, Laurent Ruquier clarified that he did not yet know what he would do at the start of the next school year. “As I write these words, I cannot guarantee that you will find me on another channel at the start of the school year,” added Laurent Ruquier. “The deadlines are short to appear in the September program grids, most of which are already ready. It doesn’t matter, I have been so spoiled already”.
