“It’s a shame to leave them like that…”: Arthur Dupont reacts to the sudden end of Agatha Christie’s The Little Murders

This Friday evening, France 2 broadcasts the last episode of “Little Murders of Agatha Christie”. Arthur Dupond, the interpreter of Inspector Maxime Beretta, returned to the reasons for this hasty stop.

The Little Murders of Agatha Christie is over. This Friday March 8 from 9:10 p.m., France 2 will broadcast the last episode of the series, entitled “Murders at the boarding school”. The channel and the production company Escazal Films announced last February that they were putting an end to the collection of TV films, after 15 years of good and loyal service.

The end of a great adventure

Launched in 2009, the first season of Agatha Christie’s Little Murders took us back to the 1930s and followed the duo played by Antoine Duléry (Commissioner Larosière) and Marius Colucci (Inspector Lampion).

After 11 episodes, in 2013 the series made a change of era to be transposed into the 50s and 60s with Blandine Bellavoir (Alice Avril), Elodie Frenck (Marlène Leroy) and Samuel Labarthe (Commissioner Laurence).

Eight years later, The Little Murders of Agatha Christie took another leap in time. It is now in the 70s that the trio played by Émilie Gavois-Kahn (Commissioner Gréco), Arthur Dupont (Inspector Beretta) and Chloé Chaudoye (Rose Bellecour) leads the investigation.

After 45 episodes broadcast, it is this Friday March 8 that The Little Murders of Agatha Christie ends. “We loved this adventure, but, after fifteen years, we were a little at the end of our inspiration, you have to know how to finish a series“, confided the creator of Escazal Films to our colleagues at Télé Loisirs.

Arthur Dupont sad about the end of the series

Unfortunately for early fans, this latest episode of The Little Murders of Agatha Christie is nothing short of classic. “It’s a shame to leave them like this”, said Arthur Dupont, the interpreter of Inspector Beretta, to our colleagues from Télé Loisirs.

And according to him, the reasons for this sudden stop are linked to money issues. “It worked well, but that’s how it is. It’s not a question of audience. France 2 reduced the budget and Sophie Revil and Escazal did not want to do things with less money, because that meant losing quality and I think they are absolutely right.”

It’s all about the big money… It’s really a shame! It was so good !” Even if he regrets the way in which The Little Murders of Agatha Christie bows out, the actor will only remember the best of his experience.

I had a blast, it was a real privilege to be able to play that, a chance to be able to develop this character, I had never had the opportunity. […] I’m really delighted to have had this experience, happy to have played Max Beretta in Agatha Christie’s The Little Murders. I don’t regret anything, it was great! It was a joy to do!”.
