“It’s amazing”: Edwy Plenel’s lawyer (Mediapart) reacts to Maïwenn’s interview in Daily

“She treated this case disdainfully, without understanding its seriousness and gravity”: Edwy Plenel’s lawyer reacted, in the columns of PureMédias, to Maïwenn’s interview with Quotidien.

The day after Maïwenn’s interview in Quotidien, the lawyer for Edwy Plenel, founder of Mediapart, reacts. Requested by our colleagues from PureMediaMaître Pierre-Emmanuel Blard, counsel for Edwy Plenel, confirms that the investigation has started well, thus rejecting the fact that Maïwenn would not have received a complaint.

The complaint was indeed filed on March 9, 2023″: “My client was even heard by the police to confirm the comments that had been made in his complaint. The police services began to hear the witnesses present at the time of the scene. All this to confirm that the procedure has been launched“.

Guest of the show Daily, Wednesday, May 10, Maïwenn had admitted having attacked the journalist Edwy Plenel. The latter had filed a complaint against the actress, screenwriter and director, in March, for events that occurred at the end of February.

According to the complaint filed on March 7 and consulted by AFP, the journalist from the investigative site explained that he had dinner with a lawyer in a restaurant on February 22. “A woman, previously seated, alone, at a table (…) arose and in a very short time grabbed the latter violently by the hair, throwing his head back and sketching a spit on his face “, is it written in the deposition“, previously reported PureMédias.

On the Daily set, Maïwenn spoke for the first time on the subject: “I did not receive the complaint; I learned about it in the press.

Relaunched by Yann Barthès: “And you assaulted him?”, Maïwenn replied in the affirmative, with a smile, causing laughter in the audience. New reminder from the presenter: “Can we know why?“, she answers “No no“.

Why can’t we know?“”It’s a good attempt, but this is not the time for me to talk about it. I’ll talk about it when the time is right. I am very anxious about the release of my film.”

Going by this sequence, master Pierre-Emmanuel Blard responds: “If she admits the facts, that means her hearing will go very quickly. She will have nothing more to add in front of the police and the file will be in the state“.

He pursues : “The question that arises above all is: for what reasons did she commit this violence? She’ll have to say more because her answer was a little short.“. (…)

She treated this case with disdain, without understanding its seriousness and gravity”. (…) No, it’s not trivial. It’s attacking a publication director of a media outlet which does its job independently. During his career as a journalist, he has never suffered such an attack. We know very well that this attack is linked to his duties as director of publication at Mediapart“.

This news in the news section comes as Maïwenn is in the spotlight, with the imminent opening of the Cannes Film Festival. His new feature film (see trailer above), Jeanne du Barry, will be presented. Maïwenn shares the bill there with Johnny Depp. Jeanne du Barry will be released simultaneously everywhere in France, at the same time as its presentation at Cannes, on Tuesday May 16.
