It’s confirmed, Starfield will not integrate DLSS, only FSR 2.0

The news has fallen: the long-awaited Starfield will not natively support NVIDIA DLSS, and will only be compatible with AMD FSR 2.0. A decision that will not please everyone.

The game Starfield, from Bethesda Softworks, is certainly the most anticipated game of the season. All amateur gamers of the RPG and sci-fi genre are on the starting blocks for its scheduled release on September 6. Nothing was certain at the moment regarding its compatibility with DLSS technology, but it is confirmed, the game will not support it. However, it will be optimized to work with FSR 2.0, the equivalent from AMD. Don’t panic though, NVIDIA gamers will still have a solution!

A decision influenced by the partnership between Bethesda and AMD

Upsampling technologies have become almost essential partners for PC gamers, allowing next-gen games to be played in very comfortable conditions. Many new games support these technologies, whether it’s the one developed by AMD or the one from NVIDIA. Intel has also developed one for its GPUs, the XeSS.

Speculation was rife regarding future compatibility Starfield with the various supersampling technologies, but the ax fell. This decision is mainly due to the fact that AMD and Bethesda have entered into a partnership for the development of the game. It has clearly been optimized to work with the Ryzen 7000 series of CPUs and Radeon 7000 GPUs. ‘AMD and which will perhaps make the players equipped with NVIDIA a little disillusioned. Please note that this does not mean that these will remain without a solution for DLSS to be supported.

Modding, a solution to everything!

As so often with Bethesda games, players can count on a large community of very dedicated and competent modders. Indeed, a certain PureDark has already announced his mod project, which will allow support for DLSS 3 as soon as the game enters early access, on 1er september. Once it is officially released, DLSS 2 should normally also be supported.

NVIDIA players can breathe, they will be able to take advantage of DLSS, even if Bethesda had not provided for its official support. Fingers crossed though that Starfield does not present an optimization problem for NVIDIA GPUs. Keeping the exclusivity of a technology because of a partnership with a manufacturer is one thing, not offering the same optimization of the game for players who do not have components from this same manufacturer is another.
