While the Pixel 8 isn’t expected before the end of the year, we already know all about its design, which looks more compact than the previous model. Here’s everything we learn from the first renderings of the smartphone.
Yesterday, the famous leaker OnLeaks unveiled a preview of the design of the Pixel 8 Pro, Google’s future flagship. Today, we are now treated to renders of the cheapest model, the classic Pixel 8. Unsurprisingly, the latter looks a lot like its predecessor at first glance, but the smartphone is going to have a difference in size.
Indeed, OnLeaks announces that this new Pixel 8 will measure just 150.5 x 70.8 x 8.9 mm. That’s significantly less than the previous Pixel 7’s 155.6 x 73.2 x 8.7mm. This more compact format should lead to a lot of changes for the technical sheet of the device.
What do we know about the technical characteristics of the Pixel 8?
On the front of the Pixel 8, we notice that Google will opt this time for a flat screen with slightly less pronounced borders than the current generation. Given the format change, Google will not opt for the same 6.2-inch panel, but could well offer this time a screen of “only” 5.8 inches. It could therefore be one of the most compact high-end smartphones on the market.
On the back, the Pixel 8 will always rely on a photo setup with two cameras, but it’s unclear whether or not these will be the same as the Pixel 7, so the Pixel 8 will still offer one less camera than the Pro version. We saw on yesterday’s renderings that the latter was even going to be equipped with a brand new sensor that looks like a LiDAR scanner, but which is absent on the smallest model.
Finally, we know that the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro will be powered by a new Tensor G3 chip, which is certainly based on a model of Exynos 2300, the chip that had been abandoned for the Galaxy S23. In addition, it could be the first chip engraved in 3 nm by Samsung, the Korean giant having launched production recently. Google would therefore align itself directly with Apple, which would also have to use chips engraved in 3 nm in its iPhone 15 Pro.
