“It’s finish !” : Scarlett Johansson and Gwyneth Paltrow will no longer work for Marvel

For Scarlett Johansson and Gwyneth Paltrow, the Marvel chapter is over: the actresses look back on their Marvel adventures that they think are over.

Scarlett Johansson was recently the guest of “The Goop Podcast” hosted by Gwyneth Paltrow, the opportunity for the two actresses to look back on their shared Marvel experiences.

As you know, Gwyneth Paltrow helped launch the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Iron Man in 2008 as Pepper Potts, which she reprized in two Iron Man sequels as well as several Avengers. Scarlett Johansson, meanwhile, made her MCU debut in 2010 as Black Widow in Iron Man 2. even face each other on the set of the film.

People ask me, ‘Is it true that you and Scarlett Johansson didn’t get along on Iron Man?‘” Gwyneth Paltrow recalled. But Scarlett Johansson is adamant:

You were so nice to me on this movie. I was so petrified. You were so nice to me! You could have been horrible. I was so out of my comfort zone on this movie. I had never done anything like this before. Besides, you had made such deep friendships.

Gwyneth Paltrow then told her partner how “excited” everyone was about her joining them, adding that she was happy to have another woman around.

You kept telling me that. Then I experienced that later. When I did Avengers, I was one of the few [femmes]… it was like a big sausage party!”, said Scarlett Johansson.

A feeling shared by Gwyneth Paltrow during the filming of the first Iron Man.

It was fun to be in something that resonated so deeply with people culturally. I had never been in this kind of successful franchise either. It was new to me.

FUTURE MARVELS?

The actresses also opened up about whether or not their future will include new Marvel movies. As a reminder, Scarlett Johansson’s character was killed off in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, but returned for 2021’s Black Widow, a standalone prequel film. For the latter, her time in the skin of Natalia Romanov is over.

I finished. The chapter is over. I did everything I had to do. Plus, to come back and play a character again and again, over a decade, is such a unique experience.

When Scarlett Johansson asked Gwyneth Paltrow if she too was done with Marvel movies, Paltrow replied: “I think so. I mean, I’m not dead so they can always ask me.

I think you might come back at some point”, joked Johansson.

Really ? A 64-year-old Pepper Potts? How awesome!”, replied his interlocutor.

Scarlett Johansson added: “100% that’s what will happen. I can see him. They will never let you go. Pull out your wig, baby!

Gwyneth Paltrow had already raised the issue around the release of Avengers: Endgame. The Oscar-winning actress then told Variety that her Marvel days were most likely numbered. “I’m a little old to be in costume and all that at this point. I feel very lucky to have done it because I was persuaded. I was friends with Jon Favreau. It was such a wonderful experience doing the first Iron Man and then seeing how important he became to the fans.

Given the “multiversal” nature of the MCU, nothing can ever truly be ruled out, but the actresses seem to be well and truly done with their respective characters.
