It's getting dark: First "Batman" trailer released

The upcoming "Batman" movie explores the early days of the superhero. He is still driven by retribution. He was still a "growing legend," said director Reeves. But by no means a "symbol of hope".

How does Robert Pattinson become Batman? This is the question fans have been asking themselves since it became known that the "Twilight" star would take on the role. Now there is a first trailer. The clip, which premiered at the "DC FanDome" event, clearly shows: Director Matt Reeves will present a dark flick about Bruce Wayne aka Batman, played by Robert Pattinson.

Commissioner James Gordon arrives at a crime scene to the sound of Nirvana's "Something In The Way". The perpetrator left a message for Batman on the corpse. "Can you think of anything?" Asks the investigator Batman. Another message emerges before the "Dark Knight" comes across a group of men with white painted faces: "What the hell are you?" Asks the leader. Batman then brutally beats up the man, then explains to him, "I am retribution." In addition to many other action scenes, Catwoman – played by Zoë Kravitz – appears in the trailer.

Director Reeves said of the famous character, according to Entertainment Weekly, "It's about his early days as Batman and he's far from perfect." The film is "a detective story, a mystery, and of course there is action". It becomes "incredibly personal" for Batman: "He is a growing legend", but "not yet a symbol of hope".

In addition to Pattinson and Kravitz, the film will also star Paul Dano as Edward Nashton / Riddler, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth and Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot / Penguin.

For the trailer, Reeves was not yet able to access all of the footage. Production started in London in January, but was temporarily interrupted at the beginning of March due to the coronavirus pandemic. "The Batman" should be released in the fall of 2021.
