Who remembers the Gummi? These little bears who love gummiboise, a magical drink which gives them the power to jump and bounce like balloons, are an original creation from Disney studios. In France, their series was broadcast on FR3 at the time from 1986, then on TF1 in the channel’s Disney shows in 1989 and 1990.

The Gummi would be nothing to Cavin, a young page from the kingdom of Dunwyn, who discovers their existence and that the gummiberry endows the humans who drink it with superhuman strength. So when the kingdom finds itself threatened by the terrible Duke Ighorn and his ogres, Cavin understands that the help of the Gummi will become essential.

The 2nd animated series from Disney Studios

Duke Ighorn and Toadie

In 1985, The Gummi was the second animated series released from Disney studios after the short-lived The Wuzzles (canceled after 13 episodes broadcast in 1986 on Canal+ and 1987 on France 3). The Gummi’s success was immediate, and gave the studio confidence to launch La bande à Picsou two years later, which also won the support of the public.

The theme song was sung by Douchka, voice of Disney songs from 1984 and 1987, who would sign four albums for the studio:

The Gummi have had six seasons which offer children a good entry point to the fantasy genre, with the “Disney guarantee” that the series is visible from 6 years old. Even the evil Duke Ighorn isn’t very scary, because he never has the last word and is always ridiculed. To rediscover with the family over a glass of gummiboise… or more probably fruit juice!
