LGeneral Bruno Baratz, who took command of French military operations in the Sahel at the end of July, oversaw the withdrawal of French forces from Mali, which was completed on August 15. Shortly thereafter, Mali’s Foreign Minister, Abdoulaye Diop, wrote a letter to the UN Security Council in which he multiplied the accusations against France and its soldiers – claiming in particular that Paris had supplied arms, ammunition and intelligence to jihadist groups fighting against the power of Bamako. Passing through Niger on August 17, General Baratz replied to these accusations during a meeting with some French journalists, including the special envoy of the Point.
