The Langer family triumphs at a special golf tournament

In the summer, Bernhard Langer set a record, and now the insatiable German golf legend is once again winning an extraordinary tournament: Together with his son, Langer leaves a whole series of prominent teams behind.

Germany’s golf great Bernhard Langer won the PNC Championship with his son Jason and also beat Tiger Woods and his family team. At the tournament in Orlando, Florida, Team Langer needed two strokes less than the team led by David and Brady Duval over the weekend. Woods and his son Charlie finished the PGA family tournament tied for fifth, six shots behind the Langers.

For Bernhard Langer it was already the fifth victory at the event. The two-time Masters winner had already won the tournament in 2014 and 2019 with Jason and before that in 2005 and 2006 with his son Stefan. “I just had fun seeing my son today. For someone who only plays once every two weeks, to perform like that under these conditions was great,” said Bernhard Langer. Jason Langer works in finance in New York. “It was a challenge, it’s cold in New York. We’ve been here since Wednesday trying to get in shape,” said the 23-year-old.

At the event in Florida that has become known as the father-son tournament, the rules have been adjusted over time so that daughters are also allowed, grandfathers can play with grandchildren or granddaughters, or professionals can play with one parent. Golfers who have won either a major or the Players Championship are eligible to take part.

“It’s just great”

“It’s a great event. I always call it the fifth major because it’s so great. Having the chance to play with your son or daughter and show them how it’s done is just great. And Getting to know other champions and their families is really great,” enthused Bernhard Langer at the award ceremony.

In July, Langer was crowned the most successful player in the history of the US senior tour with his 46th victory. The 65-year-old from Anhausen won the title at the US Senior Open and is now the sole record holder among those over 50

The 15-time major champion Tiger Woods also clearly enjoyed the appearance together with his 14-year-old son Charlie and, for the first time, his 16-year-old daughter Samantha as a caddy. Tiger Woods broke his right leg multiple times in a serious car accident in February 2021. Since then, the long-time number one in the world has only competed in a few select tournaments.
