The Swedish start-up Vässla is strengthening its offer of electric bikes available “via” a monthly subscription with a brand new model. The Vässla Pedal, from its name, offers a theoretical autonomy of 100 km for 69 euros per month.
Renting an electric bike in exchange for a monthly sum is commonplace today. This type of subscription has particularly developed since Covid-19, although Véligo has been a pioneer since its launch in 2018. Other players present include Dance, Motto and Swapfiets.
Another lesser-known start-up is also positioned in the niche: Vässla, of Swedish origin. Launched a year ago, this start-up is now established in four markets: Sweden, Germany, Spain and France more recently. Around here, an electric two-wheeler is already available for rent.
Like a little deja vu
This is the Vässla Bike, an electric machine without pedals which legally falls into the category of light mopeds – formerly called draisiennes. This vehicle is now joined by a real electric bicycle with pedals, and whose assistance propels you to a maximum speed of 25 km/h, as required by law.

The Vässla Pedal, from its name, has a little air of iWeech in terms of design. This impression is particularly reinforced by the size of its wheels, 24 inches, like the VAE of the Marseille company. Its 250 W motor is accompanied by a torque of 45 Nm, which is correct, but not overflowing either.
Where the Vässla Pedal impresses is in terms of its autonomy: the brand claims a range of 100 kilometres… obtained with the assistance mode – there are three of them – the weakest, we were told. we confirmed. With the most powerful assistance mode, count on 70 km of autonomy, which remains excellent on paper.
Torque sensor and removable battery
Double good news: first, the battery is removable. Recharging is therefore practical, since you can leave your mount in a bicycle room or in a yard, while taking the battery with you to recharge it at home or at work. Second, the Vässla Pedal has a torque sensor, not a rotation sensor.
This type of sensor guarantees dynamic, responsive and natural driving, since the electrical assistance sent is proportional to the force you put into the pedals. It is a component that is generally found on high-end electric bicycles.

Finally, a mobile application brings a touch of connectivity to the experience. With it, you can view your trip history, receive attempted theft alerts or even lock or unlock your bike remotely.
From 69 euros per month
The Nordic brand mentions three different formulas within its subscription:
- Pro 12: 69 euros per month, commitment over 12 months;
- Pro 6: 89 euros per month, 6-month commitment;
- Flex: 89 euros per month + 49 euros for registration fees, for one month.
Note that this type of offer is eligible for the “sustainable mobility package”. With it, your company can reimburse part of your subscription (up to 800 euros per year). This coverage by employers is optional.
