Roch Voisine lifted the mystery on “Hélène”, the famous tube of the 1990s which had propelled him to the rank of superstar.
On the occasion of his new acoustic tour in France, Roch Voisine was the guest of Johanna Ghiglia and Thomas Sotto in Télématin. The Quebec singer was very quickly asked about his title “Hélène”which obviously continues to arouse interest after more than thirty years.
After the quick viewing of an extract from the clip, Roch Voisine claimed to have no memory of where the clip was shotthus provoking the astonishment and amusement of the two presenters: “It was in Corsica, I believe…”he launched with a very unconvinced air.
Thomas Sotto and Johanna Ghiglia then tanned Roch Voisine, to find out if this Hélène really existed: “She was a friend’s girlfriend”he replied in a particularly detached way.
The artist then spoke about the myth concerning one of his greatest titles: “You shouldn’t ask too many questions about these mythical songs because otherwise you’ll be disappointed to learn the genesis. It was done rather simply, to please someone else. It’s not even my story”amused the one who became a dad for the third time.

Despite its 350 titles on the clock, Roch Voisine is forced to note that it is indeed the hit of the 1990s that continues to make its reputation today. “It always makes me happy to interpret the song in concert. I don’t do it all the time (…) This one doesn’t belong to me anymore, they are old enough to sing it on their own”he joked in front of Thomas Sotto.
When Roch Voisine released the song “Hélène” in 1989, he was a thousand miles from imagining the success that the ballad would cause. With this turn, the artist has become one of the sex symbols of French songthus maintaining an image of female singers.
In 2018, Roch Voisine confided to Gala that this success had not only had positive consequences: “At the time, I never freaked out, but sometimes I lost eight or nine kilos during a tour. When I got home, I could spend two or three weeks in depression, lying on a sofa, watching TV while eating crisps and drinking Coke. No one is prepared for this“he had confessed.
