The broadcast of a trailer for the “One Piece” series adapted from Netflix has revealed several key characters from Eiichiro Oda’s manga. What did hardcore fans of the original work think?
Admittedly, the story of One Piece stages the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his Straw Hat crew: Zoro, Nami, Usopp and Sanji (for the characters present at the start of the series). But One Piece is also – and above all – a universe populated by a large number of secondary characters and antagonists that we discover as the story progresses.
While a first teaser revealed during Tudum gave us a first glimpse of the heroes of the program, a new trailer for the Netflix series adapted from the manga Eiichiro Oda allowed us to discover what several major characters of the intrigues will look like, such as Shanks the redhead, the pirate king Gol D. Roger or even the Fishman Arlong.

We know it: the author of the manga was heavily involved in this live action adaptation of his work, to the point of having demanded from Netflix that sequences be returned in order to live up to the expectations of fans of the best-selling comic book in the world.
The appearance of the characters has also been the subject of significant work, although for the needs of the adaptation of the details have been modified: thus, Luffy’s sandals have for example been replaced by closed shoes in order to facilitate the filming of the action scenes.

While the looks of the Straw Hat crew members were mostly well-received by fans, it’s worth noting that the series’ more secondary character designs elicited more mixed reactions. This is particularly the case of Arlong, who appears in a more “realistic” version less imposing than in the manga version.

Fans of the original work have nevertheless defended the work of adapting the Netflix series, going so far as to acknowledge that although modified, the appearance of these characters does not betray the spirit of One Piece. Quite the contrary!
The first season of the One Piece live-action series is available exclusively on Netflix from August 31.
