SC Freiburg avoids big obstacles in the Europa League

Things could have been more difficult for SC Freiburg. But in the second round of the Europa League, the Breisgauer team will not face AC Milan, Benfica Lisbon or Galatasaray Istanbul, but will travel to France. RC Lens is still a tricky task for Christian Streich’s team.

Bundesliga soccer team SC Freiburg meets the French from RC Lens in the second round of the Europa League. This was the result of the European Football Union (UEFA) draw in Nyon. The games will be played on February 15th and 22nd. The Breisgauers have to compete in France first.

“It’s an exciting task in terms of sport, it’ll be a great trip for the fans. We’re completely satisfied,” said Freiburg’s sports director Klemens Hartenbach on Sky: “They played a great round last year. They had a hard time getting into it this year, but they have have now found their consistency. It’s 50:50.”

Freiburg, as second in preliminary round group A, missed out on direct entry into the round of 16, Lens ended up in third place in group B in the Champions League behind FC Arsenal and PSV Eindhoven and is not just a dangerous opponent for that reason: the small town has a tough spot in the French Ligue 1 -Club hasn’t lost in eleven games.
