The new Netflix releases for December 2023 don’t only bring good news. Episodes from the final season of a popular series are now available, but beware of disappointment.
Two huge new releases are arriving in the Netflix releases for the week of December 18 to 24, 2023. We will notably have the new musical film by Bradley Cooper (A Star is Born), Maestro, which is in the race for the Golden Globes and the 2024 Oscars At the same time, Zack Snyder will bring down the house on December 22 with Rebel Moon. Or at least “will try to break the house”, because at the time of writing these lines, the reviews are very negative. But the new Netflix releases for December 2023 also contain the farewells of a very popular series, and yet perhaps unknown to a large part of the subscribers.
The end of a much-loved Netflix series
All good things must come to an end and sometimes it’s not really a bad thing. By saying that, we immediately think of a huge successful Netflix series: Sex Education. The level of the last season 4 was so low that it was better to leave it there permanently. But in other cases, certain television shows say goodbye even though they have managed to survive and are dear to viewers. This is precisely what happened with one of them. After 14 years of existence, Archer is over.
The final season 14 was in fact part of the new Netflix releases for December 2023 and all eight episodes are available on the SVOD service. You do not know ? It is an animated series, with a very comic-book visual style, with outrageous humor that parodies spy films. “With his dysfunctional team of secret agents, arrogant super-spy Sterling Archer leads dangerous missions that turn into chaotic misadventures across the world” (via Netflix). Spy, yes, but not too much. Sterling Archer is a playboy who likes to enjoy life, according to his standards, and who refuses nothing. And especially not a few busy evenings.
If Archer has slipped under your radar, don’t panic. All fourteen seasons are on Netflix and what’s more, the format allows you to catch up very quickly. Generally, there are only 13 episodes at most and they all last around 20 minutes. If you are receptive to the tone and humor, it can come together.
Archer season 14 is available, but there’s a problem
However, you will remain on your end. The series is over… but in the United States only. The special episode “Archer: Into the Cold” of one hour was broadcast this Sunday, December 17, 2023 there. Unfortunately, no trace on Netflix France and you will surely have to wait while waiting for a translation.
This animated series is therefore more confidential than others, but its popularity is there. Archer is rated 8.6/10 on IMDb, 91% (press) and 83% (users) on Rotten Tomatoes. Some also consider the show to be cult and to be one of the best animated series of all time.
Half-hearted farewells? Not if we are to believe the feedback here and there, including that of IndieWire which believes that it is still excellent. A feeling shared on the networks by fans who regret that it is “already” over. “I’m going to miss Archer. I had hours and hours of laughter. The ending is superb”; “Archer’s ending is perfect”; “Archer is over and it makes me sad. I will miss this series and these characters. It was such a pleasure! »; “I can’t say goodbye to the series”; “The best spy comedy series ever made” can we read on
