“It’s the most beautiful game in the world, without any hesitation”: Alexandre Astier has an idea that should please Kaamelott fans

After years of developing the “Kaamelott” universe on TV, in the cinema or in comics, Alexandre Astier is now tackling another medium!

After the series, the film released in 2021 and those still planned, Alexandre Astier wants to further develop the universe of Kaamelott! Léodagan, Bohort and Merlin will appear in a new medium: role-playing games!

And the most famous role-playing game has 50 million players!

Guest of the show Hot Ones, presented by his friend Kyan Khojandi, Astier shared his desire to write a role-playing Bible on the universe of King Arthur as presented in his successful series. But what does he mean by “a role-playing Bible,” exactly?

The Bible of role-playing is what constitutes the rules, i.e. how do you travel, how do you fight, how do you negotiate . I admit that if I could make a role-playing game ‘Kaamelott’…

A sentence that the presenter does not leave hanging, hastening to relaunch his guest, who continues:

“I’d like that. Where usually guys grab adventurers to help them (…), you’re carrying around a troop that’s holding you back: he who can’t do that, he who can’t travel the night because he has the chips, he has to stop pecking, and you have to resolve all this in spite of them.

[C’est ce que fait Arthur] : he goes there despite the rest (…). And these characters should also know how to do things that others don’t do because they believe in it or I don’t know what.”

Enough to give ideas to fans of role-playing games, a popular hobby which allows you to embody, thanks to your imagination, characters in a fictional adventure. Being able to hire broken hands in your team and having to manage them has the potential to generate giggles around the gaming table!

What is role play? By Alexandre Astier

“It’s the most beautiful game in the world, without any hesitation”he explains in Hot Ones. “You have a game master who has a script that he either bought or made, and he tells the others what’s going on.

That is to say that you are a player, I describe to you everything that you can neither see nor hear and I tell you: ‘you are in front of a door’. You’re going to tell me: ‘I’m trying to open it’. And I’m going to give you the consequence of that: is it open, is it closed, is it hookable…

And everything that comes from chance in life is replaced in the role-playing game by the dice.

In cinema, the role-playing game most represented on screen is Dungeons & Dragons, with of course the Stranger Things series, which gives it pride of place, but also four feature films, only one of which is really worth it, and It’s this one!

Children of the 80s also knew the animated series whose theme song was sung by Dorothée and very recently, Prime Video launched the show The Legend of Vox Machina, adapted from a long game.

Conversely, many film franchises have been adapted retrospectively into role-playing games, such as Indiana Jones, James Bond, Star Wars, Alien or Men In Black.

Before the “jdr” Kaamelott, Alexandre Astier will undoubtedly prefer to release the two films constituting the second part of his film trilogy, before the third part, which asks him a capital question to which he has perhaps since found the answer!

And once Kaamelott is finished, the creator has a fiction project in the works, the story of the Beast of Gévaudan adapted into a miniseries. To be continued !
