Camille Cottin impresses in the nugget film of this season: Toni en famille by Nathan Ambrosioni arrives at the cinema this Wednesday.
What is it about ?
Antonia, known as Toni, raises her five children alone. A full-time job. She also sings in the evening, in bars, because you have to feed your family well. Tony has talent. She recorded a hit single. But that was 20 years ago. Today his two eldest are preparing to join the university. So Toni wonders: what will she do when all her offspring have left home? At 43, is there still time to take control of your life?
“That’s the question everyone asks…“, launches Camille Cottin, in the middle of an interview. “How is it possible that a young man of 22 (Editor’s note. 22 years old at the time of writing the screenplay, and today, 24 years old) can enter the head of a 40 year old woman“, alluding to the precocity of the young director of Toni in the family, Nathan Ambrosioni.
The filmmaker who has just celebrated his 24th birthday is already on his second feature film and several self-produced films when he was very young! This enthusiast never gave up, in order to realize his dreams of cinema. After Paper Flags, which had received a warm welcome at festivals, carried by a great cast (Noémie Merlant and Guillaume Gouix), here is his new film. With this project produced by Hugo Sélignac and Nicolas Dumont, Nathan Ambrosioni takes a new step in his young career as a screenwriter and director.
Toni en famille is a very nice film, constantly on the edge of emotion and humour, which offers Camille Cottin one of her finest roles, if not her finest role. She shows herself in a different light, tender and endearing.
This feel-good movie touches precisely by the tenderness it exudes, while always being fair and relevant on the subjects it embraces, including the question of the burden of caring for five children, when one is a single mother. . Camille Cottin is surrounded by a group of children, all excellent, from Thomas Gioria (noted in Until the Guard) to Léa Lopez of the Comédie-Française and seen in particular in Clem, without forgetting Louise Labèque (Zombi Child, Coma ), Oscar Pauleau (Heureusement qu’on s’a) and Juliane Lepoureau (La Ch’tite famille).
