It’s unprecedented, Microsoft removed an Xbox achievement (for good reason)

Presumably for the very first time, Microsoft has agreed to remove an achievement from Xbox. Tied to the Homestead Arcana game, the latter was factually impossible to unlock.

Some are unlocked without you noticing them over the course of a video game adventure, others in exchange for feats achieved online, or as a simple joke following an astonishing action carried out during the game… the achievements , whether hunted or ignored, are central to the Xbox experience. Submitted to Microsoft in the form of a list by the developers, before the launch of a game, the latter are normally engraved in stone. Understand that once integrated, this list is never modified again. However, this was the case until now, but Microsoft may well have set a precedent.

We learn from the specialized site ComicBook that the firm has accepted, a priori for the very first time in the history of ” achievements on Xbox, to delete a success on a title that has already been released: Homestead Arcanaa management and adventure game launched last April and developed by the American Serenity Forge.

Microsoft removed (for the first time) an achievement

In this case, this deletion concerns the achievement ” You Can’t Be Too Prepared “. The latter implied that players craftent all items that can be crafted in the game. Nothing is impossible on paper, except thatHomestead Arcana contains hundreds of objects to be manufactured… and that one of these objects could not, in the end, be. As TrueAchievements reports, a variety of boots (green ankle boots) were indeed impossible to craft, even if players had successfully unlocked its recipe beforehand.

Under these conditions, players could have spent hours trying to unlock the corresponding achievement without ever succeeding. It is presumably for this reason that Microsoft agreed to act. The achievement in question has therefore been removed, and the 100 “Gamerscore” points attached to it have been reallocated to other achievements for Homestead Acrana, explains ComicBook.

Note that developers have no control over the removal of achievements from their own games, only Microsoft can do it – presumably after having received a request in good and due form, with a real reason at the key. This explains the rarity of this case. It remains to be seen whether the firm will accept other requests in this direction. This could be a good thing, especially for older titles that have had multiplayer access dropped… preventing players from unlocking certain achievements related to online activities.
