J.K. Rowling: "Harry Potter" fans oppose the author

After the stars from the "Harry Potter" films against J.K. Rowling, the fans are now also setting an example.

"Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling, 54, is also causing a stir almost a month after its release. The author had angered a large part of her fan base with controversial statements about transsexual people. "The Leaky Cauldron" and "MuggleNet", two of the largest Potter fan communities on the net, according to the US magazine "Entertainment Weekly", have condemned Rowling's behavior in similar statements.

Rowling has chosen to "loudly proclaim harmful and disproved opinions about what it means to be a transsexual person," said both statements, among others. This opinion is contrary to "the message of acceptance and empowerment" found in her books and celebrated by the "Harry Potter" community.

Except for her work with the nonprofit organization Lumos, they no longer wanted to report on Rowling's private life in the fan communities. "MuggleNet" also states, among other things, that it no longer wants to link Rowling's website and that images from the author should no longer be used. "The Leaky Cauldron" has announced similar steps.

Stars vs. Rowling

Previously, numerous stars, including actors from the "Harry Potter" films, had taken a public stand against Rowling. Daniel Radcliffe (30, Harry Potter), Rupert Grint (31, Ron Weasley), Emma Watson (30, Hermine Granger) and other celebrities had criticized the author. "I want my transsexual followers to know that I and many other people around the world recognize, respect and love you for what you are," Watson had tweeted.
