Jacques Dutronc, gloomy, evokes depression and death: "Around me, it’s tumbling"

We knew Françoise Hardy was in bad shape, Jacques Dutronc doesn’t seem to be in great shape either. After confiding his remorse over the way he had treated his partner for many years (and mother of his child), he gave some discouraging news about the singer’s state of health. This Thursday, November 16, he was the guest of Steven Bellery on RTL and appeared rather gloomy

Like Louane who opened up about her depression during her time at the Star Academy, the interpreter of Don’t do this, don’t do this it has evoked negative thoughts and a theme that increasingly obsessed him: death. At the radio microphone, he returned to his last tour to mark the release of his memoirs. Titled And me and me and methey are published by the editions Le Cherche Midi.

Jacques Dutronc opens up about depression and death

Last year, Jacques Dutronc performed with his son Thomas, also a singer and very good guitarist. If there was a positive, he admits today that he was not at his best: “This tour did me good, but I was bad”. He gives several reasons for this: “It’s like alcohol. There were lots of little details. I got Covid, my heart rate was 133. But that doesn’t matter, it was a great experience, I was with my son and great people. It was very good”. That said, the artist has no regrets: “It’s better to have good memories than to be good in the moment“, according to him.

But Jacques Dutronc also returned to the post-concert event, mentioned by many artists. After such adrenaline and such communion with the public: emptiness. He describes : “You leave a room of 20,000 people and if we add up all the people who saw you, in relation to the tours, to the cinema… Suddenly, no one left”. But he also explains depression by a new, very present thought: “There is that and age, death which arrives, which hovers. We are heading towards a kind of depression. It’s possible, we dive into it, it’s even sure”. A figure that haunts him more and more: “I feel her sharpening her scythe. I never thought about it but all around me it’s falling apart. Very close, three in one month is weird. Never two without three, it’s okay…”. Sad confidences for this icon of French song.
