With a trembling voice, the journalist had let go: “Since yesterday a shadow hangs over this 1 p.m. newspaper, that of Jean-Pierre Pernaut, who created it, who embodied it for more than 30 years and who therefore left us yesterday at only 71 years old. We think of him, we think of his family and this edition is of course dedicated to him.“Before launching a report, Jacques Legros had added:”He was our, your, guest every day at 1 p.m., you were happy to invite him to your home. We will devote a large page to the presenter that he was, but not only. The disappearance of Jean-Pierre Pernaut shocked us all.“
Two weeks after the disappearance of Jean-Pierre Pernaut, Jacques Legros agreed to confide in the columns of Tele-Leisure. Referring to his reaction when he learned of his friend’s death, the journalist said: “I experienced it as a punch, an ‘uppercut.’ We knew he wasn’t well, but we weren’t ready for that… We had a special bond because I was his joker for 25 years. The info fell around 5 p.m. I immediately called my wife to tell her ‘Jean-Pierre is dead.’ But we had to react quickly because we had a newspaper to prepare for the next day. The next day, we did a very complicated JT (…) In my career, I have dealt with many attacks, disasters… But there, I said to myself: ‘How are we going to do it?’“

While he appeared particularly moved during the presentation of the 1 p.m. newspaper on Thursday March 3, 2022, the journalist confided: “I was told that I had a dirty head, that I seemed very tense. It’s true that we were all exhausted because we were destroyed. Honestly, I did the journal with closed fists. The hardest part was the day of the funeral. Because there was an infinite sadness. It was hard, it was hard…” Finally, Jacques Legros added: “I’m a man, I can’t cheat, I have my emotions. But we still had to hold the boat. It was all the complexity of this JT.“
