His death caused many people to react, such as the presidency of the Comédie-Française, stressing that he “was an esteemed figure in French theater and a familiar face in our popular cinema”. But also Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron, who greeted “a man who had dedicated his life to the theater”.

Born in Marseille in 1928, Jacques Sereys was raised by his mother before starting a career at Crédit Lyonnais. It was not until 1947 that he decided to settle in Paris, driven by his desire to become an actor. “At nineteen, he read his classics, lost his accent and passed the Conservatory. From then on, he worked, read, learned”, wrote on his website the Comédie-Française, which he joined in 1955. Over the course of his career, he played a varied repertoire (Marivaux, Genet, Corneille, Goldoni and even Feydeau) and brought Giraudoux into the Comédie -French. His comrades are Jacques Charon, Robert Hirsch, Jean Piat and Françoise Seigner.

Jacques Sereys died on Monday January 1 at the age of 94

He made forays into the cinema, notably with his role as head of the secret services opposite Yves Montand in I like Icarus by Henri Verneuil (1979) and roles in The Wisp and The Breath in the Heart by Louis Malle. Before settling in the popular cinema of the 2000s, where Jacques Sereys played small roles in the comedies Chouchou, with Gad Elmaleh, and Disco, with Franck Dubosc. On the side of his sentimental life, Jacques Sereys had married Philippine de Rothschild, also an actress at the French who played under the name of Philippine Pascale, and with whom he had two children, Philippe and Camille. His absence will mark the spirits.
