Jada Pinkett Smith: She speaks openly about her affair with August Alsina

In a surprisingly open and relaxed conversation, Jada Pinkett Smith and her husband Will Smith confirm that she was having an affair.

Jada Pinkett Smith (48) and her husband Will Smith (51, "Men in Black") have confirmed that the actress had an affair with American rapper and musician August Alsina (27) a few years ago. Surprisingly relaxed, even funny, the two, who have been married since 1997 and have two children together, son Jaden (22) and daughter Willow (19), explained how it came about.

Although it was actually a private matter, the couple wanted to clear up the rumors of the past, said Will and Jada Pinkett Smith on the Facebook show "Red Table Talk". In early July, Alsina claimed that he had even received her husband's blessing for a liaison with the 48-year-old.

It all started four and a half years ago

Smith says that she "started a friendship with August" about four to four and a half years ago. "We actually became really, really good friends." Alsina was "really sick" at the time and the actress just wanted to help him at first. "You and I had a really difficult time," the actress explains, and her husband argues that the two actually wanted to separate. At that point, he really felt that the relationship between the two could be over. Jada also confirms this.

"So what did you do then, Jada?" Will asks. "Well, you know, as time went on, I had a different kind of involvement with August." She later confirmed: "Yes, it was a relationship". Jada Pinkett Smith was "very hurt and broken" at the time. What did she look for at Alsina? "I just wanted to feel good," said the actress. She had "learned so much about herself", discovered "ugly truths" but also a certain "beauty".

Alsina not a "family destroyer"

It was strange for both that the matter now came to light. Jada Pinkett Smith thinks she understands Alsina. The latter probably only wanted to make it clear that he was not a "family destroyer". The 48-year-old further explains that he is not. Will Smith did not give his "blessing", in this situation only she could.

Alsina later broke off contact with her and since then has not spoken to him. The Smiths believe that many couples go through something similar in their relationships. There would never have been secrets between the two. Jada is "deeply grateful" that she and her husband are now in a "new place of unconditional love" as a couple. "The fact that I'm talking to you again is a miracle," Will Smith jokes. At the time, neither of them would have believed that they would find each other again. "A bad marriage for life," they laughed.
