Jam Master Jay: Two suspects arrested 18 years after murder

Almost two decades after the murder of hip-hop legend Jam Master Jay, two suspects are now on trial.

The American DJ Jam Master Jay (1965-2002) was shot a little less than 18 years ago. Now two suspect men have been arrested, as US media, including the "New York Times", unanimously report. Jason William Mizell, his real name, was one of the members of the pioneering hip-hop formation Run-D.M.C. ("It's Tricky").

The hip-hop legend

Jam Master Jay was killed in a recording studio in Queens, New York City, around 7:30 p.m. in October 2002. Another person in the room was injured in the ankle but survived. The two men currently in custody have been under suspicion for some time. One of the suspects was arrested on Sunday, the other had already been behind bars for robbery.

After almost two decades, there should now be enough evidence to indict the two suspects. The exact charges will be announced shortly.
