James Blunt was a close friend of hers. In his book “Loosely Based On A Made-up Story”, which will be published on October 26th, the British musician reports that she visited him in London the night before her death. And Fisher’s daughter Billie Lourd (31) made him partly responsible for her mother’s early death.

Carrie Fisher apparently took drugs before her death

At this point, Carrie Fisher was addicted again. She came to him with cocaine. According to the BBC, Blunt writes in his book, that he felt guilty for not taking more forceful action against his girlfriend’s drug use. Instead, he took drugs with her in the hope that he could gradually wean her off it.

In an interview with the broadcaster about the book and album release, Blunt says about this approach: “It’s a difficult thing. Some people just do their own thing and it’s impossible to help them. But should I have tried harder? Yes , I guess so.” The fact that he didn’t do more at the time concerns him: “Would it have been worth losing a friend if I had tried to help? Yes, it probably would have been,” he reflects.

James Blunt wasn’t at Carrie’s funeral

At the time, he did not attend her funeral out of sadness and because Fisher’s daughter held him partly responsible. It wasn’t until years later that he drove to her house and said goodbye in the driveway with tears streaming down his face. The song “Dark Thoughts” on his new album “Who We Used To Be”, which will be released on October 27th, is about this moment.

In his book, he also recounts an anecdote: As he stood crying in the driveway, a bus carrying a tour group drove past, whose leader then announced: “As you can see, some fans are still deeply moved by Carrie’s death. ” Blunt’s remark: “If she had watched, she would have laughed her head off.”

James Blunt and Carrie Fisher are said to have become friends in 2003, according to the BBC. The actress offered the musician to record his debut album at her home in Beverly Hills. He wrote his famous song “You’re Beautiful” there and recorded “Goodbye My Lover” in her bathroom – high on hash brownies. At the time he called the album “Back To Bedlam” – “because of the madhouse it came from.”

Carrie Fisher died on December 27, 2016 at the age of 60 after a heart attack. Shortly before, she had celebrated her comeback as Princess Leia. Fisher’s mother, Debbie Reynolds (1932-2016), died the next day at the age of 84 from complications of a stroke.
