The takeover of MGM by Amazon gives a “James Bond” scriptwriter a stomachache, as he writes in the “New York Times”.

John Logan, 59, a screenwriter who co-wrote the Bond films “Specter” and “Skyfall”, is very concerned about the franchise following the Amazon deal with the MGM film studio. Bond fans have wondered since the news of the takeover whether this will have any impact on upcoming Bond films. The insider feels the same way: Logan writes in one Opinion piece for the “New York Times”that he would have shivered when he heard about the mega-deal.

He fears that corporate interference could jeopardize the creative process: “In my experience, the following happens to films when such concerns enter the creative process: everything is watered down to the most easily consumable version of itself,” he writes .

That would actually be a major change for Bond. So far, only the Broccoli-Wilson family has watched over every step here. To be more precise, Barbara Broccoli (60) and Michael G. Wilson (79), whose film production company Eon Productions still owns 50 percent of the Bond rights. Logan expressly praises the two in his text and describes the process of making the films as familiar. “We discussed and debated and come to a solution, as families do, without outside voices,” writes Logan.

One of the big questions now is whether this will continue to be the case. If Logan is to be believed, the chances are slim that the way of working will remain the same after the takeover.
