James Cameron: "Avatar 2" shoot is complete

Good news for "Avatar" fans: The filming of the second part has been completed. It still takes some time before the film hits the cinema.

James Cameron's (66) "Avatar" sequels are obviously making progress. The director just announced that the shooting of "Avatar 2" is "100 percent complete". "Avatar 3" is also "95 percent" ready. He explained that according to "Entertainment Weekly" during a zoom interview with Arnold Schwarzenegger (73).

"Covid hit us like everyone else … We lost about four and a half months in production," Cameron said. Therefore, the film will not be released until December 2022. "That doesn't mean," says the director, "that I have an extra year to finish the film, because we will work on finishing Avatar 3 from the day we deliver Avatar 2."

Five parts planned

At the moment he is at work in New Zealand. "We shoot the rest of the live-action scenes. We have about 10 percent left. We're 100 percent finished on Avatar 2 and 95 percent finished on Avatar 3." Cameron had announced the successor to "Avatar – Departure for Pandora" (2009) in 2010. The project was repeatedly postponed, most recently because of the coronavirus pandemic. A fourth and fifth part are also to follow.
