Actor James Franco is working on his comeback to the screen: he will play in the book adaptation “Me, You” by Bille August.

James Franco (44) is back: after several women accused the actor of sexual harassment in 2018, it became quiet around him. Now Franco apparently wants to resume his career.

As “The Hollywood Reporter” reports, Franco will take on one of the leading roles in the coming-of-age drama “Me, You” by Danish director Bille August (73). The film is based on the novel “Tu, mio” by Erri De Luca. Tom Hollander (54) and Daisy Jacob will also be seen in the strip.

It’s about 16-year-old Marco who falls in love with an older girl on the remote Italian island of Ischia in the 1950s. As a child, she had dark experiences with Nazi Germany – which is why Marco decides to take revenge on a group of German tourists.

First big role after a career break

It will be Franco’s first major role after his career break during the #MeToo movement. In addition to the allegations made by the women, the practices of his acting school also made negative headlines. Students at the now-closed Studio 4 film and drama school accused the actor and his partners of pushing them into more and more explicit sex scenes. In 2021, Franco agreed to pay $2.2 million to settle the lawsuit.

Speaking at length with SiriusXM radio station Jess Cagle, 56, Franco explained that at the time he thought his actions were OK because the sex was “consensual.” “I admit that I slept with schoolgirls (…) and that was wrong,” he said. He was “not clear in his head” at the time.
