Filming has started for “Freaky Friday 2”! Disney announced this news on June 24th via social media. The entertainment giant posted on Instagram a picture of Jamie Lee Curtis, 65, and Lindsay Lohan, 37, on the set of the film. “The Colemans are back and coming to theaters in 2025! The sequel to ‘Freaky Friday’ is now in production!” is written next to the picture.

The photo reflects the key point of the body-swap comedy in a humorous way. Jamie Lee Curtis sits in front of Lindsay Lohan’s trailer and vice versa. While Lohan, who is almost 30 years younger, smiles seriously and cheerfully into the camera, Curtis appears snotty and youthful. She sticks out her tongue and forms a French fry fork with her fingers.

In “Freaky Friday” from 2003, psychotherapist Tess Coleman (Curtis) ended up in the body of her teenage daughter – and vice versa. Both learn to understand each other better.

“Freaky Friday 2”: Cinema instead of Disney+

The announcement text not only reveals the rough start date in 2025, which was to be expected anyway. The real news is the word “cinema”. Recently there were rumors that Disney would not be able to bring “Freaky Friday” to the big screen, but would only show it on its own streaming service Disney+. This fear has now been refuted.

Jamie Lee Curtis personally got the sequel off the ground. Last year, she wrote a letter to Walt Disney Pictures in which she suggested a sequel for the comedy’s 20th anniversary. The production company was reluctant for a long time and only officially announced completion in March 2024.

“Freaky Friday 2” is directed by Nisha Ganatra, 50, who also directed “Late Night” with Emma Thompson, 65. Andrew Gunn, 54, the producer of the first part, is on board.
