Jan Hofer: With his pension, he could just pay the rent

Moderator Jan Hofer (70) and the "Tagesschau" actually belong together. Nevertheless, the contract with the chief spokesman for the news format expires at the end of the year. But it is still unclear whether Hofer will continue or retire, as he now clarifies in an interview with "Bild am Sonntag". He and those responsible want to "go into the next negotiations in July and August and then decide".

"But at some point it has to be over, I can't go on forever," Hofer adds. He would have been doing this for three years longer than planned. The Corona crisis obviously also has a complicity in the fact that everything has to be reconsidered: everything that he had planned in the near future was largely paralyzed by Corona. "I had made provisions," said Hofer. He should have moderated events, but that would have been a thing of the past. "And the stock market doesn't look too funny right now," continues Hofer.

"There, reserves that were built up in the form of funds, for example, quickly shrank by 25 percent," says Hofer. When he looks at his pension notification, "I know I could just pay the rent from it." Actually, he also made plans to spend more time with his brother, who lives in Spain: "I could well imagine being there with him for half a year, it would certainly be a lot of fun for both of us. Just put your feet up. "
