Amazon Prime has announced a new documentary series about Jan Ullrich. In it, the ex-cycling professional will speak personally about his path.

25 years ago, Jan Ullrich (48), who was born in Rostock, was the first and so far the only German to win the most famous and probably most important road bike race in the world. Amazon Prime Video is now dedicating a four-part documentary to the Tour de France winner, which will be available on the streaming service in 2023. According to the announcement, this takes “an exclusive and critical look at the career, the successes and also the crashes of the exceptional athlete”.

Jan Ullrich: “How I went from being a hunter to being hunted”

After he triggered a great enthusiasm for cycling in Germany in the late 90s around his Tour de France victory in 1997, Ullrich made the headlines with allegations of doping, excessive alcohol consumption and criminal offenses. In the documentary, Ullrich now wants to talk personally about his path. To do this, the viewer travels to the most important places in his career, from his early days to his great triumph in Paris, and also to the places with which he associates less pleasant moments.

“Lately a lot has been reported about me, positive and negative. Now it’s time for me to tell my story, the whole story of how I went from hunter to hunted,” explains Ullrich in a statement. He wants to take the audience on a journey through his life – “with all the turbulence, setbacks and challenges”. The producer of the documentary series is Jochen Köstler, Executive Producer Jan Klophaus and the director is Sebastian Dehnhart.

Amazon Prime has already announced two more documentaries. The 90-minute documentary “Apache stays the same” about the rap star Apache 207 (24) starts on September 23rd. In the spring of 2023, the six-part “All or Nothing” docuseries can be seen, which accompanies the national soccer team to the World Cup in Qatar.
