US producer Janet Yang (66) has been elected President of the Oscar Academy. The Board of Directors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences appointed her to succeed David Rubin. She is the first Asian American person to hold this position.

As a member of the Academy, Yang has a history of promoting diversity, equality and inclusion, said Bill Kramer, executive director of the Oscar Academy. “I am very pleased that she is taking on the valued role of Academy President.”

One of her films was nominated for an Oscar

The 66-year-old’s previous work includes “Daughters of Heaven” (1993), “Larry Flynt – The Naked Truth” (1996) and the Oscar-nominated film “The Colorful Side of the Moon” (2020).

The 95th Academy Awards next year at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles is scheduled for March 12th.
