Her birth mother later wanted to take her back into her care – but that was anything but easy: “You cannot give a child away and then repeat it if you like.”

For Janine Kunze it quickly became clear as she got older that she would definitely be adopted by her foster parents. “At 14 it was rejected by the court, but at 18 they couldn’t do it anymore,” said the 47-year-old. “I didn’t do this to her [ihrer leiblichen Mutter, Anm. d. Red.] To put one thing in there, it was a declaration of love to my parents. “Her birth mother, however, admired her for her courage to give her child the care of another family:” At the time, my birth mother was simply not able to raise a child. I admire my mother for this decision. “
