A man apparently set himself on fire Wednesday morning September 21 in Tokyo near the Japanese Prime Minister’s office, and was subsequently hospitalized in an unconscious state, according to several local media.
According to these same sources, including TV Asahi and the newspaper Yomiuri, the man is said to have left a message of protest against the planned September 27 state funeral of slain former prime minister Shinzo Abe, a tribute that divides Japan. Asked by AFP, the police and the Prime Minister’s office did not wish to comment immediately.
