Japan orders evacuations after earthquake, tsunami warning triggered

TOKYO/TAIPEI, April 3 (Reuters) – Japan ordered evacuations in coastal areas near the southern Okinawa prefecture as a tsunami warning was issued after a powerful earthquake.

A three-meter-high tsunami is expected to reach the southwest coast of Japan around 10 a.m. (0100 GMT), according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.

A tsunami warning has been issued after a 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Taiwan.

Earthquakes are common in Japan, with the country located in one of the most seismically-prone regions in the world.
