TOKYO, July 8 (Reuters) – Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has been taken to hospital after collapsing while delivering a speech in the western Japanese city of Nara, reports on Friday on the public television channel NHK.

A gunshot sound was heard and a suspect was arrested, NHK said. A journalist from the Japanese channel present at the scene said he heard two consecutive detonations as Shinzo Abe gave his speech.
