Jared Leto: He returns as the Joker for Justice League

For Zack Snyder's new version of "Justice League" Jared Leto will apparently slip back into the role of the Batman opponent Joker.

For director Zack Snyder (54) he does it again: Hollywood star Jared Leto (48, "Dallas Buyers Club") will apparently slip into the role of the criminal clown Joker again. This is reported by the US trade journal "Variety". For the "Snyder-Cut" of "Justice League" Leto is supposed to mime the Batman opponent again.

It is not entirely clear whether Leto was already planned for the 2017 version of "Justice League" or whether the 48-year-old is only now joining the unusual revival. Nonetheless, this is a surprise. In October 2019, "The Hollywood Reporter" reported that Leto was not at all pleased that an independent Joker film was not made with him, but with Joaquin Phoenix (45, "Gladiator").

Accordingly, the actor never even wanted to take on the role of the joker again. A source told the paper at the time: "How should he play his own joker after Phoenix's? That ended Leto's time as a joker." Leto last played the criminal clown in 2016 in "Suicide Squad".

Unusual story

The fact that a new version of Justice League can now be seen is also an unusual story. At that time, director Zack Snyder had to leave the production early due to a family tragedy. Joss Whedon (56) then took the helm. After the premiere of the film in November 2017, some fans were disappointed with the result and longed for a film version from the original director.

Under the hashtag #ReleaseTheSnyderCut, a real campaign developed on social media. At the beginning of May 2020, the streaming service HBO Max took care of the matter. The "Snyder-Cut" will be shown exclusively there in 2021. There is not yet an exact release date. The alternative film version could appear as a four-hour film or a six-part series.
