Karl Lagerfeld and Jared Leto once discussed the possibility that the actor could one day impersonate the fashion guru.

Hollywood star Jared Leto (51) has for his role as Karl Lagerfeld (1933-2019) even received the blessing of the fashion tsar personally in the upcoming biopic he co-produced.

In an interview with “Welt am Sonntag” Leto said about his relationship with Lagerfeld, whom he described as a “fascinating personality”: “I still remember the first time I met him. At that moment there was a connection between us, we got along well. “

The two have even talked about the possibility of the actor playing the designer one day. “During our friendship I once said to him: ‘You know Karl, one day I’m going to portray you in a movie.'” Lagerfeld’s answer: “Only you will be able to portray me, darling. Only you,” Leto now recalled. “That was very sweet of him.”

In the interview, Leto also discussed his performance as Lagerfeld’s cat, Choupette, at the Met Gala in New York in May. “I wanted to make people laugh. Above all, I wanted to do something that would have made Karl laugh if he could have been there himself.”

Karl Lagerfeld’s first designs came out in the 1950s. His last collection – after a nearly seven-decade career – was released in 2019. The Met exhibition featured around 150 garments and sketches from Lagerfeld’s time as creative director at several major labels, including Chloé, Fendi and Chanel, as well as his label Karl Lagerfeld.
