The German Film Prize will be awarded in Berlin on May 12th. The moderator this year is the actress Jasmin Shakeri.

On May 12th, the film world will be looking to Berlin again: That’s when the German Film Prize will be awarded in the Theater am Potsdamer Platz.

Actress and musician Jasmin Shakeri (44) is the presenter this year. The German-Iranian, who most recently played alongside Karoline Herfurth (38) in “Einfach mal was Schönes”, is happy: “We can get used to celebrating our achievements. ‘Empowerment’ shouldn’t be an empty phrase. This evening belongs to the nominees, and my stuttering and stumbling won’t change that.”

After the German Film Prize was awarded on the grounds of Messe Berlin for the past eight years, this year there will be celebrations in the city center again: the award ceremony and the subsequent “Lola Party” will take place in the Theater am Potsdamer Platz.

New location is more climate-friendly

Producer Claudia Loewe from the German Film Academy: “We made a conscious decision to change the location.” In the theater, the existing stage technology and seating can be used. “By doing this, we want to reduce emissions to a minimum.”

The German Film Prize is endowed with a total of almost three million euros and is considered the most renowned German film award. It is awarded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture, Claudia Roth (67).
