It’s official, the film adaptation of the famous video game Minecraft will arrive in France!
In the pipes for almost 10 years, the cinematic adaptation of Minecraft will finally arrive in dark rooms!
Fans will be able to discover this feature film from April 2, 2025 in France. After the phenomenal success of Super Mario Bros, Minecraft will be expected at the turn. Indeed, this game created in 2011 by the Swede Markus Persson is the most sold in the world with 238 million units sold.
Its success has also led Microsoft to buy the development studio Mojang for 2.5 billion dollars. Since acquiring the rights to adapt the license in 2014, Warner Bros has continued to push the project back.
In July 2015, Vu Bui, the CEO of Mojang, announced Rob McElhenney to direct the film, which was supposed to be released on May 24, 2019 in the United States. Three years later, Peter Sollett was announced to write and direct the video game adaptation.
Finally, Jared Hess (Supernacho, Les Cerveaux) will be in charge of directing the film. He will direct Jason Momoa, who has been chosen to play the lead role in this adaptation.
The plot of the film is still a mystery. However, in 2019, a first synopsis evoked the story of a teenage girl and a troop of adventurers whose mission is to save the world of Overworld from the evil Ender Dragon. We should know more in the coming months.
